How to Start a Consulting Business as a Mom: Tiffany Rosik’s Career Pivot Story

What happens when your corporate role disappears—and instead of scrambling for another job, you bet on yourself?

This week on All Figured Out, I sat down with Tiffany Rosik, founder and CEO of TGR Management Consulting, to talk about how she walked away from a high-paying role in tech and built a consulting business on her own terms. We talked through the fears, the logistics, and the freedom that comes with going out on your own—especially as a parent.

Tiffany’s story is one that so many people are curious about, especially moms who are rethinking how they want work to feel in this season of life. If you’ve been wondering whether consulting might be a path to more flexibility and freedom, this episode is for you.

From Layoff List to Leadership

Tiffany had built a strong career in healthcare tech and project management—eventually working for one of the “Big Five” consulting firms. But when her division was shut down and she was offered a chance to move into a new (and unrelated) line of business, she made a powerful decision.

“I knew I was putting myself on the layoff list,” she told me. “But they made a decision about them—and I made a decision about me.”

Instead of defaulting to another corporate job, Tiffany started having conversations with trusted people in her network. Those conversations turned into a plan. And that plan? It became TGR Management Consulting.

The Power of a Personal Board of Directors

Tiffany didn’t build her business alone—and she doesn’t think you should either.

In the early days, she leaned heavily on three key people: one who understood business development, one who understood operations, and one who was her ultimate hype woman.

Together, they helped her figure out her offers, her first pitches, and how to position herself as a serious consultant (even before she felt ready).

You Don’t Need a Website to Start. Just Talk to People.

A big part of Tiffany’s success? She started before she had it all figured out.

“I didn’t have a slide deck or brand or mission statement,” she says. “I just started having conversations.”

Even today, most of her business comes from relationships—not from social media or newsletters. She’s proof that your network (and your reputation) are more powerful than any funnel.

The Take That Surprised Me: Moms Should Coach Sports

Tiffany also dropped one of my favorite pieces of advice to date:

“When I say I coach hockey, it lands differently than saying I have to leave early for pickup. People respect it more.”

As a hockey and baseball coach to her teenage boys, Tiffany shared how coaching has helped her reclaim time, build credibility at work, and show up fully for her kids. She argues that more moms should take the lead on the field—and I totally agree.

Consulting Isn’t Easy—But It Is Possible

We wrapped our conversation with some candid talk about the challenges of consulting: business development is hard, not every pitch lands, and some dream clients take years to come through.

But Tiffany’s advice? Start anyway. Get feedback. Fail fast. And build from there.

If you’ve been curious about consulting, but you’re overwhelmed by the unknowns, let this episode give you the behind-the-scenes perspective you’ve been craving.

If you’ve ever asked:

  • Could I actually make consulting work for my family?

  • Do I need a full business plan to get started?

  • What if I fail—or no one hires me?

This episode is for you.
